If the Nobel Committee takes a year to determine a winner, How did Obama win after only 9 months in office?

A year ago Obama had not even been elected, much less achieved anything. And yet somehow he was nominated for a Nobel peace prize before he had even won an election. So what did he get the prize for? Just being "not Bush"?|||Actually yes. Carter got a Nobel for saying he thought Bush should not invade Iraq. He hadn't done anything really but being Anti-Bush is a pretty big thing in the eyes of the commitee. Obama had, by the time he was nominated, won the election (becoming the first Black president) and said that he would meet with any world leader without precondition. In the eyes of the Nobel Comittee that is a wonderous thing indeed.

While his approach may not be in the best interest of America it is certainly favorable to those who are fearful of America's greatness.

Recall our discussion of why others hate America. During the cold war when there were two major super powers America was easy to love cause if you didn't like what we were doing you could just play us off agaist the Russians. Now, with only one super power, those same countries fear us and want to see ballance restored once again. When a leader stands up and does something to weaken the US then that, in the eyes of the Committee, is a true move towards their security.|||Forget that he was nominated after ONLY two weeks after being elected president!

When people like Nelson Mandela were imprisoned and Mother Teresa took decades

HA

jokeBAMA|||You seem to be conflating their annual schedule with the determination schedule.|||It's the PIECE prize because he's a leg tingler.|||His nomination came about two weeks after he was elected, but the committee had already decided to study the Obama as a candidate soon after he gave a speech in Germany prior to the election in which they saw him chastising American foreign policy. They liked what they heard.|||it was actually voted on after 11 days in office...go figure|||Its a big joke. This is the international community telling you that your president is nothing but talk. apparently most people don't get it.|||They don't take a year to determine a winner. The nomination deadline is sometime in February. But the determination is not made at that time. He was given the prize for what he has done this year.
