Why do you think Bill Gates deserves a Nobel peace prize?

Hi,

Could you guys give me some reasons why Bill Gates deserves a Nobel peace prize?|||The Nobel Peace Prize is a great honor given to people who have devoted themselves to peace, diplomacy, democracy, and the overall well-being of humankind. Donating money to charities is a wonderful thing to do, but it isn't enough to make the cut.|||You consider ranking Bill Gates among the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, Henri La Fontaine, Woodrow Wilson, Martin Luther King Jr., Henry Kissinger, Mother Teresa, the 14th Dalai Lama?

I don't see how you could even consider him a candidate for a Nobel peace price. What has he done to promote peace in this country, let alone the world?

Last years' Nobel peace prize went to Martti Ahtisaari 鈥渇or his important efforts, on several continents and over more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts." Do you think any of Bill Gates financial accomplishments are anywhere even close to what Ahtissari has done for the world?

In short, Bill Gates does not deserve to win, be nominated for, or even discussed in the same sentence as the words "Nobel prize".|||globeandmail.com: Gore shares Nobel Peace Prize - Comments

I can't wait until Bill Gates wins it for his humanitarian and charitable ... Canada writes: I agree with Guy Macher, David Suzuki also deserves a Nobel Prize. ...http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/s鈥?/a> - 790k - Cached|||no :) LOL

When will President Obama give back his Nobel Peace Award?

Do you think he deserved this political decision? It is a mockery of the Nobel Committee and their award system. Is there anything left in this world that is still achieved honestly? Please let me know.|||I heard he paid 2 million for it and gave him 1 million back as the prize.^

Who do you think should win the Nobel prize in literature?

Please only name living authors, otherwise we would need to have a few hundred Nobel prizes to hand out posthumously.|||This is going to be hard considering most of my favourites are Classics. :)

I'm going to go with Kazuo Ishiguro for Never Let Me Go. He has such a simple but effective way of writing and he manages to combine the tradition feel of an English boarding school and the fraught tensions of growing up with a ton of raw human emotion with regards to the futuristic morality of the story. It's so beautifully written and keeps you enchanted and moved until the end. I can never tell people what it's about, it doesn't do it justice. The film is a faithful adaptation but nothing comes close to the language he conjures up.

Joss: Whilst I agree that Atonement is McEwan's best work I certainly wouldn't say he's worthy of a Nobel prize. The plot drives the novel forward but his writing in itself is nothing extraordinary in my opinion.

:')|||I think the last novel I read of his was in the mid nineties about the time I gave up on American literature and of course he has some extreme negatives against him, but certainly Philip Roth meets most of the criteria for winning this award.

His negatives include being a New Yorker and being Jewish, though a non-practicing one.

His positives, to the Nobel committee at least, are a "marching to my own drummer" attitude and his unflattering views of American culture.|||Ian McEwan for Atonement. But, apparently - according to a former judge on the panel - there's a systemic bias against European and American writers, especially American writers.

Maybe McEwan will get it next year, though. ;) I might actually read this years winner. I've read a summary of the book and it kind of interests me. I don't think I've read any books that have this award. Though, if McEwan ever wins then that'll be one. :D|||Philip Roth. Without question. The Nobel's not awarding him with the Nobel greatly discounts the award. He deserved it twenty years ago.|||I'm not too sure personally about Stephenie Meyer (author of the "Twlight" series).|||The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy|||the person who wrote Harry Potter?

Should Nobel Prizes have been awarded in nuclear physics?

In his will, Alfred Nobel stated that the prizes should go to those who benefited humanity in some (tangible?) way. I don't recall the exact wording, but I encourage you to look it up. Does that mean that nuclear physics, which has as main impact produced the nuclear bomb, should have been excluded? |||That is not the only application of Nuclear physics.

I would say that the main applications would be for medical use, in the generation of power and archeology (carbon dating) where the principals of nuclear physics are applied every day.

Those are indeed tangible benefits.. don't you think?

|||Alfred Nobel Swedish chemist, engineer, innovator, armaments manufacturer and the inventor of dynamite.

The erroneous publication in 1888 of a premature obituary of Nobel by a French newspaper, condemning him for his invention of dynamite, is said to have brought about his decision to leave a better legacy after his death. The obituary stated Le marchand de la mort est mort ("The merchant of death is dead") and went on to say, "Dr. Alfred Nobel, who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before, died yesterday.

This was not a man who would have cared if the invention killed people he was more interested in the furthermost of science itself|||dude nobel prize is for physics also. The people who have the greatest contribution have the prize. There is a commitee that decides who should get this prize. making bombs.

Also, the bomb has resulted in 60+ years of no world war, so the

builders of the bomb should be given the Nobel Peace prize.|||lets not forget about nuclear power, one of the cheapest and cleanest forms of electricity, and people really need to stop associating nuclear with bomb, you can have one without the other. |||They are awarded for physics (%26amp; other things too). Nuclear physics has had implications far beyond the bomb, medicine for one.

How come I never won the Nobel Peace Prize?

I have sat on my a.ss doing nothing for America way longer than Obama has been in office,so where is my Nobel Peace Prize?|||because Obama paid "The Man" to give it to him instead!|||at least you didn't use sarcasm like obama Nobel PEACE Prize yet all the stuff with iraq and Afghanistan seriously ......|||Try becoming president and having some of the world appreciating Americans a little more.|||Haha|||You aren't famous enough|||NOBODY WANTED TO TELL YOU BUT YOU HAVE LIKE THE BIGGEST EYE BOOGER..|||You're not famous or the first black president.|||you need to promise to do nothing first|||Be patient, you will get it one day....|||yea im still waiting for mine

How does the Nobel Foundation get it's money?

I read that the money awarded to winners of Nobel Prizes depends on the Nobel Foundations income that year. In 2009 the prize was worth $1.4 million.

So how does the foundation get this money?|||The Nobel Prize was created by the inventor of Dynamite, Alfred Nobel who was horrified by the uses of his invention. So he used the profits from the sales of dynamite to create the Nobel Prize. Presumably the same profits today are being used to fund the Prize. But that's just a wild guess.|||It was a legacy left by Arthur Nobel. The fund is managed, with the prize money coming from the investment proceeds. Pulitzer Prizes are similar as are grant from the Rockefeller Foundation.|||charity and donations.

What are the 7 possible nobel prize categories?

What are the 7 possible nobel prize categories?|||"The Nobel Prize (Swedish: Nobelpriset), as designated in Alfred Nobel's will in 1895, is awarded for physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and peace. A prize in economics in memory of Nobel ("The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel") was instituted by Sweden's central bank in 1968. How did Obama win The Nobel Peace Prize?

To be honest I kinda like the guy but I do not see how he won this award. The nominations for this award were submitted in February, the deadline 12 days after he stepped into office.

1) Why was he nominated after only 12 days in office?

2) What has he actually done, I admit he has good intentions and I personally think he will do alot, but at this moment I think this is a farce and cheapens the accomplishments of other Nobel Peace Prize winners, do you agree?|||Obama, himself, was surprised. You are not the only one.

It is more likely was a political move on the Prize committee.

It is a domino effect.

1) His attempt to get the Olympic into the US failed, hence it laid a shadow of creditability on him, and how he can achieve success in the Middle East.

2) in combination with his hesitation, delay, or lack of communication between him and his top leader in Afghanistan! Whatever the reason was, since the media and or our politicians majority of the time don't tell us what really is going on. Necessity to give him the leg up that he is attempting to get the peace without the war. Although, that delay may result into more failure and conflict. Europe see the US as the lead in War, not as the method that want to end the troubles.

3) add them up along with the reaction of people when he didn't the Olympic to the US. It was a boost to give him to get up, and to work.

4) It is most likely his name was added in in the last moments.

You are correct about the farce and cheapens of past awards.|||Lets see, he has even started any kind of peace process that would attempt to settle any of the numerous conflicts in the world (let alone solve any).....

.....so maybe it was his anti-American rhetoric in the UN. After all, anti-American rhetoric is popular in Europe these days and the Noble Peace Prize is a European invention.|||Yes I agree he's a farce and does cheapen the accomplishments of the deserving people who actually did something.

Giving the prize to Obama was simply a political ploy and nothing more.|||He is a marxist, just like the people that voted to give him the "prize"..also he is black.|||It's now the Nobel P.C. Prize and has been that for a long time. Either way he deserves it. He's the p.c. fairy tale prince and he is making naive gestures of peace.|||This question has been asked at least a thousand times in the past few days. If you are really interested in an answer I suggest that you review the many answers posted in response to the same question. Use the Yahoo Answers search mechanism.

That review should provide you with a wide range of opinions, some of which are very well thought out.|||by his efforts to bring down america.|||I was as surprised as anyone about this, but giving it some thought, I think that there may be several reasons for this move. (some quite brilliant if you think about it.)

1. He's NOT GWB; the rest of the world was NOT happy with "cowboy diplomacy" and the concept of "preemptive wars" - that is a dangerous concept. (If you think about it, EVERY war could be described as a "preemptive" war, should we allow THAT concept to catch on - really? - "preemptive" to one is "attack" to the other) If one gives a speech that names names, like "the axis of evil" then we start invading those countries, it only prompts the OTHER countries to arm themselves, countries that may very well be able to do a great deal of harm to not only us, but the rest of the planet as well - of all the not too bright things Bush said, this was hands down the stupidest.

2. He promised to get us back in line with things we should have NEVER gotten out of line with - torture, rendition, etc... Those things are not only against the law in THIS country, they are against international law, the Geneva Conventions. Perhaps this award is showing support for saying we would clean up our act.

3. He spoke of opening lines of communication for diplomatic talks among our "enemies" - that is a mature concept. Just because we have the ability to blow up the entire world 80 times over does not mean we should. To engage in this would destroy US as well as anyone else we perceive to be a threat.

4. We, as a nation grew from selling, owning and lynching blacks to electing one to the highest office in the country. Again, it shows growth, this time on the part of the entire nation (OK, maybe not the ENTIRE nation....) This would mean that it was given to US as a country - a reminder from the rest of the world that the world is NOT WASP - and DOES NOT HAVE TO BE, to be recognized as having rights equal to them.

5. It puts enormous pressure on him to not just talk the talk, but to actually walk the walk. (this was the brilliant move) He is now under intense pressure from the world community to DO what the said, to make every attempt to settle our differences with other countries with diplomacy. Regardless of what people might think, this is the RIGHT way to do things. Some just want the acknowledgment that they have a right to self-determination, just like we do. We don't HAVE to like everyone, or their leaders, but to acknowledge THEIR rights, well, sometimes that is all that is needed.

6. It is a reminder, from the world, that they are watching, and that they are supportive of the course he laid out, once again, we have the support of the world community, HOPEFULLY, we won't blow it this time.

I think their message was "you have made promises, NOW keep them".

The road to hell is pave with good intentions....

I agree that it is premature, perhaps undeserved (at this time anyway), especially since people like Gandhi have never received one, but I think they were sending a message to him as well as US, that we should go back to being the "sleeping giant" we once were, to keep our actions in check. We have a right to defend ourselves, but we do NOT have a right to bully the rest of the world.

I sincerely hope he EARNS the honor that has been bestowed upon him.

Do you think that Obama is embarrassed that he got the Nobel Prize?

If he were, of course, he wouldn't want to admit it. But isn't it possible, that Obama, deep down in his heart, would think that the Nobel Prize committee were being tokenistic or patronising.|||He did say that he didn't deserve it...no shock there, he didn't. I'm not sure if he said that because he feels that way or because he wanted to appeal to people who believe that he doesn't deserve it.|||he should be embarrassed.|||Me and shiraz cheat and yet I sit here all day talking about Republican values, what in the hell is wrong with me?

Seems like other Republicans who have answered the same questions that one of my other avatars has asked ( And I later answer )would notice that I always win "best answer" and they would begin to get pissed at me, cause I am cheating them too.

I am currently number 2 in politics section and I can not stop cheating until I am #1.

Hell I have (earned ?) 4000 points just this week alone

I am proof positive that Republicans have no integrity because not a single one of them have called me a cheater, some have even given me support.|||I think he is very uncomfortable with it. Even he knows he did not truly deserve it. Now he has to stand behind all of his own words and take action and make what he said actually happen and he knows he can't.

He's a dreamer not a do'er.|||Yes, I do. I think he is in a difficult position because I don't believe he thinks that he should have won but at the same time rejecting the prize is an affront to the people who made the decision.|||He should be, but this narcissist more than likely thinks he earned it through his great speaking accomplishments.|||A megalomaniac embarrassed by an unjustified award? No, I doubt very much that he is embarrassed. He probably just wishes they would "fix it" and call it the "Obama Prize" rather than naming it after some dead Swede.|||Why would he be embarrassed about it?|||Why should he be?|||No, but he should be.|||Actually they are putting a ring in his nose, and leading him around by it.|||Publicly I believe he is.

However, privately I believe his ego swelled a bit.

Probably needed some lovin' after the Olympic fiasco|||Not in the least.|||I think Republicans should be embarrassed that Obama got the prize for not being a Republican.|||The Nobel Peace prize is in itself the ultimate irony. Alfred Nobel was the man who invented dynamite – a destroyer of lives -- yet his name bears the honor bestowed on those who would save lives.

One of the first to hail President Obama’s choice for “ nuclear disarmament” was Mohammed El Baradei, head of the United Nation’s nuclear watchdog group, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). El Baradei himself received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 for his efforts “to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes.” El Baradei, an Iranian, insists that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful, and refuses to release IAEA reports declaring otherwise.

President Obama may well bring about nuclear disarmament, universal world peace and a permanent cessation of war. At this point, however, he has only made a handful of speeches about them. He has done nothing of substance -- he has not halted one nuclear enrichment plant, stopped one missile program, converted one terrorist , signed one treaty or even softened one bellicose speech by an adversary.

In a world where there are real nuclear weapons and real enemies, the notion that the perception of peace matters more than its reality is not just absurd, it's dangerous.

Ronald Reagan brought down the Iron Curtain, freed millions from tyranny, ended the Cold War, defeated the Soviet Union, ELIMINATED tens of thousands of nuclear weapons, and he didn't even get an honorable mention from the Nobel Committee. Obama makes (by my count) 7 great speeches and he gets a Nobel Peace Prize. Go figure.|||not at all

he know hww hope disappeared from the world under the dark days of right wing rule, invasions that cost trillions and kill 5000 looking for non existent WDM , he would be proud that unlike the hated Bush he is loved world wide , except by a few american hysterics

awarded by an unbiased, unpolitical, independent committee

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

Have any Scientologists won a Nobel prize or equivalent?

I remember reading some Scientology publicity that man uses only 10% of his brain power and that Scientology can increase your IQ. I wondered therefore if there are any Scientologist who are famous say Nobel prize winning scientists or mathematicians who won the Field medal. If not then who is the most academically respected Scientologist?|||Paul Haggis, director, Academy Award winner

EDIT: Sorry, but even the 10% brain power quote is false:

That would be the equivalent of Ray Comfort winning won.

The only thing true is that only 10% of brain power is used.|||ROFL. Scientology can increase brain usage? Bullshit.|||Scientologists are too busy being insane and trying to act against science to bother winning science prizes.|||They shift you from using 10% of the good side to using 15% of the useless side.|||Nah, claims like this are how they lure gullible people into joining the cult. They claim they can help you reach your full potential...it's just marketing tactics.|||YA is proof that it is possible to use way less than 10%.|||No Scientologist has one such a prize. To be fair, however, the number of Scientologists in the world is probably under 100,000 people. Odds are not in their favor to win such a prestigious award.

Even if Scientology can increase IQ, that doesn't suddenly make them the smartest people on the planet. That's like someone telling me they can help me get taller and then be shocked that I don't break height records.|||I believe that Tom Cruise is the intellectual example of scientology, which does prove your point.|||"Have any Scientologists won a Nobel prize or equivalent?"

Why and when did the world decide to invelt the nobel peace awards?

i like the nobel peace awards but wat were the reasons behind it. The "peace" was never shown amoung nations that had people recieveing awards and war still goes on.

what was the point?

one of m teachers told me but i forgot.|||Alfred Nobel developed explosives, such as dynamite, beginning around 1860. They were meant to be used for peaceful purposes, but, as so often happens, they were developed as weapons of war.

When Alfred Nobel saw the devastation and death caused by his work on battlefields, he decided to act on his better instincts. In his will, he left much of his fortune to establish a foundation supporting peacetime scientific efforts. This became the Norwegian Nobel Foundation. It awarded the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, and has continued to do so since that time. The Prize has been awarded to 94 persons and 19 organizations since 1901. It does not necessarily award the Prize annually.

The "world" had nothing to do with the establishment of the foundation.|||the nobel prize was created by alfred Noble, a scientist who invented dynamite. He invested all the money he was given as a reward in a foundation to reward people who had worked had to preserve peace|||The first Nobel Peace Prize was given in 1905. Alfred Nobel was the inventor of dynamite. He thought that if someone built a weapon that could destroy the whole world then people would not go to war. He died before the nuclear bomb was invented. But he had the hots for a sexy babe who turned him down and worked for world peace during her lifetime.|||Afred Nobel was the inventor of the Nobel peace prize. His life's work had been in the manufacture of explosives, and he is most famous for the invention of dynamite in 1867. This meant that he became an incredibly wealthy man.

As he realised the extent of what he had introduced to the world with the invention of dynamite he wanted to leave a legacy that was not destructive, but rather constructive. After his death when his will was read it caused quite a stir, especially the paragraph about a yearly portion of his estate being given

"鈥?to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses. 鈥t is my express wish that in awarding the prizes no consideration be given to the nationality of the candidates, but that the most worthy shall receive the prize, whether he be Scandinavian or not." (Alfred Nobel was Swedish).

The intent was to use what had been a destructive invention to try and reduce war; but sadly although many people have been awarded the Nobel Prize for peace, human nature of greed, selfishness, pride, and anger is not so easily changed.

Why is Chinese Government afraid of Liu Xiaobo getting the Nobel Peace Prize?

First, Communist Party Secretary Hu Jintao and his puppets arrest, torture and imprison Liu Xiaobo for wanting a democratic China. Now they have placed his wife under house arrest to stop her going to Norway to collect the Nobel Peace Prize on his behalf. What is the Chinese Government afraid of? The world is already aware of how poorly the Chinese Government treats its people and its invasion of Tibet and the repression of the Tibetan people.|||PRC Communist Party has hijacked the country for 60 years. This is not the China it was supposed to be. The China with 5,000 years of civilization, good moral values, respect of the heaven and earth, were all deprived away by the foreign concept of Communism. And Mao and his comrades lied, cheated, murdered, and tortured so many to be in power. Their successors followed Mao's steps and continued with the horrors and terrors.

They imposed themselves on everything.

They taught the people for one party democracy (??) is best system. They invented this to tell the people for totalitarian system is democracy. What a spin-doctor!

They taught the people for communist party reign is chosen by the history and the people, thus they are here to stay.

The communist party hates him so much, I have heard a lady communist angrily asks on U.S. TV wanting to have Liu shot. This lady communist currently lives in the U.S. I suspect this is a communist party worker at Chinese consulate.

The communist party is like a gang that you can't get rid of. They'd do everything to keep themselves in power. Human decency, conscience, good moral values, are not a priority to them.

The second is just stupid, but they have been brainwashing themselves for so long that it is difficult to escape the cycle of ignorance.

Most Chinese people believe that they should take small steps to becoming democratic and don't want outside pressure or influence from foreigners. They are just content to be prosperous financially and make their own quality of life better. So they put up with whatever the CCP does. Why there is no Nobel prize for technology?

Nobel Prize committee or Bill Gates Foundation need introduce a new 'Technological Innovation' prize in the world. This prize will award many innovative companies like Microsoft, Google, Sony and so on. Besides running a large corporation, these companies are coming into help for the broader community of the world. For example, Google translates, maps which are making international trades faster, Yahoo Answers making people sharing their knowledge in lightning speed or even HTC Sense who is restlessly innovating ideas.|||They can't figure out how to make one.|||You realize that nothing Microsoft has ever done would qualify for this right? That all they've done is refine and expanded another man's ideas. How can you seriously compare a new iphone with decoded man's genome? Oh look a moderately better search engine came out this year.

There are ones for Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine, which pretty much covers all the real sciences, so why introduce one in such a limited field? Nobels are awarded for the ideas that lead to inventions, not the inventions produced from those ideas.

The nobel covered the invention of superconductors, integrated circuits, the electron microscope, and the laser.

You want to give them for google maps. Not the idea of satellite mapping, but because google map makes those maps accessible to anyone.

Really?

So to answer your question, Ghandi. And the poor soul is probably turning over in his grave right now, considering there were other nominees more worthy of this award than Obama, who won it for his promises. Since one of his promises was to do the right thing for the U.S. of America, Home of the brave, Home of the free, and another promise was to donate his $1.4 million prize to charity, the most charitable %26amp; right thing he could do is use every bit of that money to help pay back the national debt he helped create. Charity begins at Home|||Actually Gandhi was the elected winner in '48, but he died before the announcement. So there was no announced winner in '48

The Nobel committee does not award the prize posthumously, but DOES pay posthumously, This has happened twice, when the person was alive when the announcement was made, but died prior to receiving the award.

Obama got the award for a Speech, nothing more, and we can be sure that even that came not from HIS pen, but from the pen of a political writer!

Here is a link to a few others who were nominated this year and all were infinitely more deserving than our prez!

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/…|||There are somethings I believe that Obama said he would do since his Democratic campaign, the Nobel Peace Prize should go to someone who is fighting for better rights for those who have no platform to began with. This award is a result of what people in other countries call "Bush Era." Just the mere thought of the president of America changing the tactics of welcoming other countries has given Obama the Nobel prize. The committee basis their decision on the fact of what he might do while in office. Gandhi should have won, but at this point, the more popular pick is President Obama.|||obviously Gandhi...but the whole nobel prize reward is pretty screwed up... I mean, they gave it to Henry Kissinger, mr. bomb cambodia to kingdom come, the guy who fervently acted in the Iraq, Yom Kippur, and other wars, a nobel peace prize, so I don't really believe the nobel prize counts for much.

Obama got chosen over a guy locked in jail sending emails out to the world telling what is happening and Obama (though I think he does have a lot of potential) got it in 11 days...|||A couple of points to make about this.

1. The Nobel Committee admitted its mistake in never selecting Ghandi, and cited "divided nationalistic opinion" for the reason of its error.

2. Ghandi was going to receive the award in 1948, however was assassinated before he could receive it. The Nobel Committee does not give out posthumous awards.|||I think its ridiculous ridiculous ridiculous. he has done NOTHING to deserve it! I don't think he's a bad person or anything, but what has he done to get this? its just absurd! this tarnishes the award for all the past winners because now its not as respectable or valid. i just can't believe they gave it to him...ridiculous.|||Well duh, Gandhi should have won all five times he was nominated. I don't like politics, so I don't think anyone in office should win the Nobel prize, personally! Mahatma Gandhi was great, though...so he doesn't need to win the Nobel prize to earn respect.|||This isn't really answering your question, but I think Obama won it for just talking about peace, not making it. That man would probably win a Heisman trophy just for watching a college football game.|||ghandi ensured that indias independence wouldnt be a "bloody" one. where as obama hasnt really done that much yet. so i would say ghandi but hes dead.|||He managed not to mudsling in his campaign more than twice per speech, isn't that why he won?|||ghandi|||the noble prize is nothing but a pay for money award|||I'm gonna go w/President Obama because he plays in a more dangerous sand box with much higher stakes to the world. Ghandi certainly has a mention if not a win in this area though.

The liars throw out their canard that nothing has been accomplished to ‘win the prize’. I am going to have to go with what the Nobel committee said.... that its decision to honor the president was motivated by “Obama's initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism”. All things he has done repeatedly.

http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/p…

Nominees for the Nobel award are nominated by February 12, assessment %26amp; voting up to October.

In a word = ‘initiatives’! These initiatives have been delivered by President Obama in very powerful venues %26amp; in very clear tones. They were a large part of his 2-year campaign leading up to his election and were well received on a National %26amp; International stage prior to his election victory. In addition, the President has 'walked the talk' in meetings with NATO, UN, and various Nations, as well as within the United States. Repeatedly.

This is what Candidate Obama campaigned on, largely what the voters elected him for, what he has repeatedly pursued, and what those more intellectually honest than conservatives have recognized him for. Remember – America’s image was a big problem during the election – and we wanted it fixed.

Had President Obama not won the election, candidate Obama would have probably won the Nobel Peace Prize anyway.

So, once again, conservatives, in their hatred for the man that rightfully called their President out when they should have but wouldn’t, stand with Hammas %26amp; the Taliban against America’s prestige. Whinners – not a pretty sight – and normally not associated with Americans. The stench of it sickens me. Conservatives are just 1 more group standing with Hammas %26amp; the Taliban. Don’t bet against America or Americans %26amp; that includes our President, the President of the UNITED States!

And U.S. 'news' agencies run like little squeling school girls with the minority crazies of a minority cult party.|||I smell Conservative sour grapes :-(

Since ol dunderhead George couldn't win the Nobel Peace Prize, Cons are now trying to convince themselves it's an "invalid prize" :( Hah hah, that's good, thank you Cons for the laugh :-)

Obama has done more (good) in 8 months than ol Georgie did in 8 YEARS

(Cons can't see the truth past their huge lying, sniveling noses :-)|||Ghandi was sort of a nut. I think Obama will have a bigger impact on the world.

Oh - India's independence (and Pakistan's founding) was quite bloody indeed. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs - they didn't do the Rodney King "can't we all just get along" thing.|||Lets just leave it up to the nobel committee that has been choosing the recipients all along. And omit the hatred that is brought on by jealousy.|||Gandhi did not get the prize because he created war between hindu's and muslims... and the country became worse through war, then it was before... (When the europeaons were enslaving both hindus and muslims)|||The President has done a great deal to improve relations with other countries around the world. I'm proud of him for that simple fact.

Most americans don't realize how important peaceful talks really are.|||Neither. Sarah Palin should be. She resigned her office and now all Alaskans are at peace.

When did talking about peace win a person The Nobel Peace Prize?

This is the second time in recent history that I seen the Nobel Peace Prize was given to individuals for talk alone when so many other put work into the cause. If a person is in the public eye a bring up a good point or cause.OK. If that same person act on that cause with passion and from the heart, that maybe worth an award.|||To the best of my knowledge, the Nobel Peace Prize has never been given to someone just for talking about Peace. I respect Mr. Obama for saying that he did not deserve the award. I would respect him more, if he had refused to accept the award. But, it' s a great photo op for his scarp book.|||some people that know more then us think that he's doing more then anyone else for peace, this just something else for people to find fault with obama, just can not figure what is wrong with people,to much hate in this world.|||Poor Mother Teresa probably rolled over in her grave.

Where did yu get this info from, I swear they always win like races all the time and Serena and her sis Williams are like the best ever female tennis players arn't they?|||They, like EVERYONE ELSE should FEEL the same way - excitement!!|||How do white Americans feel when they see a 5 year old Swedish girl speaking perfect English and their kids can't even form a proper sentence, let alone get the food from their plate to their mouths successfully.|||uhm, nothing.

oh wait no, sometimes i get bored. but other than that, nothing.

What do you think about Obama winnig the Nobel Peace Prize?

As you may know our president has won the Nobel Peace Prize. Why do you believe he won?|||This question has been asked a hundred times already. by myself and other people. He didn't win it. He got it for his views and speeches, not for actually doing anything. He was elected for winning the prize less than 2 weeks after his inauguration, the prize is a joke and a political tool. In the past it actually meant something, not anymore..|||because he got selected and this is really really old news|||It was a political payoff plain and simple a boot licking and display of disgusting butt kissing by the Norwegians.|||He lost the Olympics and needed this to save face. It is all a conspiracy.|||This shows how fair are the noble prize committee in selecting the deserving candidate. Now I know that noble prize is just rubbish. In my opinion it has lost its value.|||This was to encourage the world's most powerful man to bring peace, and not wars, like Bush had done.|||He did not win it, it was given to him. Just as his university degrees were, and his electoral victories.

Enlightend: HA HA HA! Yeah, that's a good reason. So it's like one of those self-esteem awards to make the fat kids feel good even when they come in last in the 100 yard dash?

Well, that's OK though. I guess that's why they gave it to Yassir Arafat, the Moslem terrorist, in hopes thay maybe it would encourage him to stop murdering Israelis.

This has discredited and disgraced the Nobel Prize system. Sounds like paranoia I know but it鈥檚 a bit ironic for him to win the Nobel Peace Prize because the application had to be in on February 1st when he had been in office for a total of 12 days. And during that short period of time he had already given orders and supported an extension of the bombing into Pakistan where some civilians were killed.|||Because the world is praying that he will live up to that honour.|||Idolatry. Nominations closed 12 days after the de facto prez took office. Even today, what has he done to earn even a nomination, let alone the prize???|||this is not meant in a mean spirited or racist way, but i feel him

Obama, a Democrat who took office as the first black U.S. president in January, has been widely credited with improving America's global image after the eight-year presidency of George W. Bush, who alienated both friends and foes with go-it-alone policies like the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

The award acts as a "call to action" to confront the global challenges of the 21st century|||i think he was awarded this as a result of the influence others are able to excert behind the scenes.

just like tony blair becoming the euro president is also totally ridiculous.

it all reeks of corruption and a favour for a favour.|||Why would someone give this a star??|||As we may know? I think the whole country knew about it a week or so ago. :D

The whole prize itself is a load of crap. Gore got it because he said global warming exists and now Obama gets it because....

Um.|||It is the first time that the Peace prize has ever been awarded to a person who has done nothing to deserve. It is a shame, and the Norwegians have done a great disservice by awarding the prize . Shame on them.|||No one in the world has made more initiatives towards peace. From what I heard, George Bush received laughter instead of votes.|||Stanley Tookie Williams, King of the LA street gang, "the Crips" was a five time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize during his tenure on Death Row, all because he wrote a book. arrogance and lack of respect for other nations.

In any circumstance it is not what is done but

how it's done, too many foreign nations did'nt

like the way they were treated by the past Admin-

duty to reason with heads of state and listen to

their take on things in order to bring peace and

have a happy medium between countries using

this appoach and it works. The Nobel Peace

Prize is not given to anybody for nothing it is

based on merit. His efforts to win the Olympic

sports for the US brought him the Peace Prize

instead and that is an achievement in itself.

When a Nobel Prize has been awarded and received can it later be rescinded?

Olympic Medals can be rescinded and their recipient directed to return them.

This happen in 1912 with American athlete Jim Thorpe when it was later learned he played a season of semi-pro baseball for $10.

Can a Nobel Prize be later rescinded?|||if it on subject if research is found fake , but peace Prize can not be rescinded|||I think it is totally different. The Nobel Prize is not a competition in the way the Olympics or sports are. There are probably different people who are nominated, but there is no competition between them (That would sort of take away from the Nobel Peace Prize)

I don't think short of the winner starting a nuclear war or something, there would be a case where it would be rescinded. Since that has never happened, nobody knows if they would rescind the prize.

Everybody does not agree with the winner, especially this year, but I doubt if it would ever be taken back.|||Yes.

What did Obama do to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?

Is this April 1st - Fool's Day You must be joking. This award isn't worth the paper it is written on!

Obama has not accomplished one thing internationally since he is in office. I guess the international community is happy to see someone that is about to destroy the US from within win the peace prize without a shot being fired. The peace prize was named after A. Nobel

the inventor of dynamite, but Obama never exploded out of the gate --not even a slow sizzle ----this award is a dud!|||He caused that tingly feeling up Chris Matthews leg(s) -- shouldn't that be enough. For those initial 2 weeks, Mr. Obama had to name all those tax cheats, czars, future racist Supreme Court judges -- then he had to find someone to teach him how many states there are in the USA. Our MSM ensured he could make claims that America will do something to pay for the economic downfall we may have caused the world. His Nobel plan is to socialize America, kill the dollar, and ensure liberal fascism and our "in his pocket" media flourish throughout the rest of his dictator-oops, time in office.

From my point of view, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama , mmmm, mmmm, mmmm, was awarded based solely on "hopeful potential" with no works backing it. He should either give up the award because he is not deserving or have it renamed for America and it's good citizens for which he should be proud of (but isn't).

Maybe this is the second time that the First Lady is "proud" of America. Who cares...|||As an avid Obama supporter I hate to admit it, but he does not deserve the award for what he has accomplished thus far. He hasn't accomplished much thus far in advancing world peace. Maybe by the end of his presidency he may do many good things, but that's years in the future. It appears that this one was awarded based on potential acts rather than actual acts. I was even willing to give the benefit of the doubt for Al Gore, but this is a bad call. I never thought I'd admit this, but I think this organization is exhibiting a liberal bias.|||Well, I don't know exactly. You see the nominations closed two weeks after he was elected.

Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. He, too, was nominated but what does what he did compare to the mighty BHO?

It does not bother me that Obama won the prize as much as the other 205 nominees who didn't. They certainly deserve it more than he does.

*|||Not only that, but the nomination deadline was when he'd been president for 12 days. What did he do in his first 12 days of office?

Carter, Gore, now Obama. I have absolutely no respect for the present Nobel organization. It's an insult to those worthy recipients in former, and honorable, years.|||The reasons given for him winning are....."because of his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy." Because he's the ONLY president that has ever done those things! It's almost as big of a joke as obama himself is!|||Nope, not April Fools. 9 months and he did more than Bush in 8 years. -first person ever to spill a 40 of Olde English on AF1

-filled the seats around him with tax cheats and two child molesters

-threw 27 of his "good friends" under the proverbial bus

-tried to kiss the "belt buckle" of a king

-gave the Queen of England a Ipod with speeches of him reading, poorly I might add, a bunch of crap that only ignorant, brainwashed idiot believe to be true or accurate

-he gave the Queen a bunch of old DVD's with coding that make them unwatchable in the UK

-had a little fun terrorizing the people of New York with the AF1 fly over

-told the world that he thinks Austrian is a language

-he magically changed the number of uninsured from 47 million to 30 million in a matter of hours...at least according to him

-also, he has been able to have secret midnight meetings with barney frank so the two could share a bucket of whip cream while they taught each other how to use a leather whip; random I know

-he got an abortion for his babies momma, aka his daughter, with only a few people knowing

-performed a really cool magic trick when he made a few billion disappear only to reappear in the pockets of those who bought him the election

-he showed that most, 97% or so, of black people vote on skin color alone

-figured out how to use a light bulb as a crack pipe after he broke his real pipe

-holds the record for having 62% of the White Houses Secret Service request a transfer such that they wouldn't have to be around or protect barry or his she male

Obama awarded 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

"The president had not been mentioned as among front-runners for the prize, and the roomful of reporters gasped when Thorbjorn Jagland, chairman of the Nobel committee, uttered Obama's name."|||Yeah, trying to end nuclear proliferation, create a healthcare plan to give all the sick and dying in america access to medical care, trying to secure peace between Israel and Palestine, bringing Iran in with direct diplomatic peace discussions, and trying to restore the admiration and respect for america around the world..yeah he's doing a whole lot of nothing.

Why do some believe that The Nobel Peace Prize given to Obama was a bribe?

Why do some believe that The Nobel Peace Prize given to Obama was a bribe and that he is in trouble for accepting?

I understand some people do not believe he deserved it, but how was it a bribe?|||It wasn't so much a bribe as a nudge. The Nobel committee has long supported a globalist agenda. Offering up the ultimate prize to Obama was a push to remind him to stay in line with said agenda during his presidency, or lose face in winning the prize if he doesn't follow through.|||to keep him to his liberal left wing agenda. The Nobel Peace Prize is just liberals patting the backs of liberals for doing absolutely nothing. It's like an Academy Award. Have you ever seen an industry that needs to "award" each other any more than Hollywood does? Same thing with the Nobels. There is no other person who deserved a Nobel more than Ronald Reagan and he was totally snubbed because he was not a Liberal.

He is not going to wave a magic wand and in less than a year fix something in a country that have been going downhill for the past 10 years Idiots like you and the once in Congress are the ones that are trying to stop him from doing what he said he would do.|||This makes him a slave to the rest of the world. Anyone who does not think this award will impact every decision he makes is an idiot. He must now live up to this award even if it means selling out America. He earned the award by apologizing for America and showing sympathy for the terrorist. His support for the Global War on Terrorism which he now calls the more politically correct Overseas Contingency Operation is pathetic. Bush had to clean up Clinton's mess and he did without blame and now someone else will have to pay for Obama's NPP.|||either the scandinavians are very sarcastic and have a wacky sense of humor,or they are incredibly optimistic that he will still earn the credit.

but you are right in pointing out how ridculous this is,it,s seems there is no end to corruption.

if he pulled out the troops and ended the wars he be a hero and would be worthy of such a grand nomination.|||People around the world are encouraging Americans and Obama to continue to take steps in the right direction. This isn't just a vote for Obama. This is a vote for the American people. If you feel he is undeserving, then you agree with him. He doesn't feel he deserved it either.|||Okay.....that's ENOUGH!!!!

Shut the F**K up.

ENOUGH ALREADY YOU RACIST GOONS!!!

Accept it. He won, and it's over with.|||He won it the instant he took office and got rid of that horrible man who was president before him. It was a change from war to peace. Nothing could be more important.|||I vote for this as best answer:

How many Indians had won the Nobel Prize?

I would appreciate it if the names, %26amp; years of winning were included. Also the kind of Nobel Prize (peace, literature, Chemistry, etc)|||1. Rabindranath Tagore - Nobel Prize for Literature (1913)

2. Sir C.V. Raman - Nobel Prize for Physics (1930)

3. Dr. Hargobind Khorana - Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology (1968)

4. Dr. Subramaniam Chandrasekar - Nobel Prize for physics (1983)

5. Mother Teresa - Nobel Prize for peace (1979)

6. Dr. Amartya Sen - Nobel Prize for Economics (1998)

Other Nobel Prize Laureates related to India:

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), V.S. Naipaul (1932- )

@ Andrew S - Where are you from, mate?|||If you mean Indian as citizens of India, it would only be Mother Theresa of Calcuta, for her Poverty Awareness Campaign, and Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, for refusing to use violence to regain his people's freedom.

If you meant as a Native American of the US, none.

If you mean indian as a Native American of any of the countries in America (the continent), only 1 has ever won such prize: Rigoberta Menchu, from Guatemala, for her work in trying to earn equal rights for the indigenous cultures.|||I believe Tonto did for his work with the Lone Ranger|||That reminds me of a song we all sang as children...one little, two little, three little...|||You can browse all of the winners yourself at

http://nobelprize.org/.

Although some of the winners could have a bit of Native American ancestry, I doubt that any full-blooded Arawak or Cherokee or whichever Indian tribe member would have been able to be nominated. If you mean East Indian, then there may have been a few of those citizens who won.|||ZERO!!!|||If you mean American Indians, none as far as I know.

If you mean a citizen of India, mother Teresa is the only one that I can think of.

Did President Obama actually deserve the Nobel Peace Prize and why?

In my opinion, if Henry Kissinger received the Nobel Peace Prize then any criminal is eligible for the honors.|||Most of us know Obama did not deserve it, even he knew that. The value and respect for the Nobel Peace Prize has diminished greatly.|||Yes it's true that Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize was basically the international community saying, collectively, "thank god Dubya is gone!" However, Obama ever since he was a Senator has been fighting hard to locate and secure loose nuclear weapons that went missing after the fall of the Soviet Union and are still unaccounted for. Many scientists and terrorism experts estimate that the chances of one of these weapons being used against Americans in the United States in the next 10 years is around 80%, which not only make Obama's mission a very important one, but also makes you wonder why the hell Bush didn't seem to care much about the problem of loose nukes.|||It was a sham award anyway. People forget that every once and a while. If you really check out who's received that award before Obama, you realize it's just a political tool. Did you know the guy who originally formed the Cryps got it? It was given to him in hopes that he would be taken off death row. Oh yeah he wrote a book in prison, whoopty doo!|||It was a slap across King George's face by the International Community. That was the purpose. Obama did not do anything to deserve it; he just intends to finish off the war and this is what the International community wants.|||The Norwegians seem to think so and really that is all that matters. So what you and others think does amount to a spit in the river.|||Yes, he deserved it. He's restored the opinions of other countries toward America just by being elected and stating his objectives for his term as President.|||Sure,,,,, the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke just like obama.

I put more faith in the MTV music awards, then the Nobel.|||No. He should not have gotten it because he did not do one thing to get it. He is a big joke.|||Yes.

Now that Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize will he make peace among christians, muslims & all world religions?

Did they give the Nobel Peace Prize to the right person to bring about peace in all of the world's religions?|||Mary,

Sadly an award does not make peace among others. I feel that the award may actually stand between him and what he needs to be doing at this time. Have a great weekend.

Thanks,

Eds

.|||its a little strange to me because 1) its only been 9.5 months, and 2) he's not really the anti-war candidate that he claimed to be in his 2004 Senate campaign. He uncreased troops in Afghanistan and STILL won't give Cindy Sheehan the time of day. I think he's a good man at the end of the day, he just needs to grow a pair and DO what he said he'd do.|||Could be the right person for this year. Who knows what next year will bring. An attempt can be made to bring together christians, muslims, jews and all religions, however, that should not be left up to political leaders.|||There is only one person that can bring true peace to this world and it is Jesus Christ. All these prizes, United Nations, other ideas to bring peace into the world always fail and only cause more problems than they solve.|||its the muslims and christians who have to stop fighting he cant really do anything about that until he can find all the muslim and christian and jewish extremist|||I think they gave it to the right person who will bring Socialism to America finally|||Nah, he's just another 'puppet' to usher in the Antichrist, dude.|||FAT CHANCE...SEE POLITICS...TIRH|||No.

How do nominations for the Nobel Prize in Medicine work?

I would like to nominate President Obama for a Nobel Prize in Medicine... as now many more Americans have access to Healthcare. This is amazing.

People with rare diseases can finally be treated that will really advance out medicine too :).|||Hmm. Maybe you should learn something about the bill that was passed. Still, here's what you asked for:

What does it say about the Chinese..when they jailed a Nobel Prize winner for exercising freedom of speech?

Arent they the worst people of our world? How can you put someone who won a nobel peace in jail?|||Most Nobel Prize winners should be in jail. So why are you asking this?|||They have a terrible record on human rights, but they aren't the only ones to punish / ban / exile / arrest a Nobel Prize winner. All things considered, I'd classify Burma (Myanmar) as the worst in the world. Whre's Keith Olderman when we need him?|||Well, the worst people in the world run North Korea and the human flesh barbecues in Liberia. The Chinese government is just oppressive and revolting, not heinously evil.|||Same thing is says about the US wanting to put Julian Assange in jail for exercising his freedom of speech.

Which effectively means its ok in China and US to say what you want as long the government agree with it.|||You're looking for an excuse to nuke them are you....|||Well, right-wingers want to do that %26amp; worse to Obama

so are right-wingers on par with the Chinese?|||It says that they don't have freedom of speech and that we should protect and honor our Constitution.|||They want to make sure that they stay in power no matter what. Just like Tienanmen square.|||Yet people claim they are advocates for human rights...........|||i agree ! they always have evil design

Do you really think the Nobel peace committee is less educated than, say, Glenn Beck?

Has Obama fooled the Nobel committee, or are those saying that the fools?|||There's no such thing as the Nobel Peace Committee. There is however a Nobel Prize Committee.|||No

Glenn Beck is not educated.

Glenn Beck never went to college.|||According to con logic, Obama has fooled the entire world, and only they, the cons, are the ones who can see past his [insert con ignorance].|||Yes I think they got caught up in the game. I guess we will see in the future.|||To put the words "Glenn Beck" and "Educated" in the same sentence is to commit an act of oxymoronity.|||They have to be. Look at what they just recently did,and you get your answer!|||Most are highly educated but their education doesn't mean they can't make political choices that devalue the concept of the noble prize to have all dignity and worth of a cow paddy.

Education is not the same as intelligence. Some of our greatest idiots have had impressive degrees after all. Some have even become Presidents and world leaders.|||Yes just like he fooled America with his hope and change lie!!!!!|||What does education have to do with it?

What are reasons why naguib mahfouz should not have won the nobel prize?

I have a debate and I have to argue that Faulkner was much more deserving of the nobel prize and Mahfouz was not, any ideas?|||A difficult argument to make given the body of Mahfouz' work and the fact that he fathered a genre and brought the marginalised `others' out into the open. Very difficult to argue that Faulkner was more deserving.

How did Obama win the Nobel PEACE Prize? Hopefully he stopped the war and I haven't heard about it yet?

How did Obama win the Nobel Peace Prize?

How does he compare to Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King Jr.?

Has he even had time to proven himself yet?

Did he stop the war?

How has he promoted and achieved peace through efforts?

Please enlighten.|||Reagan did more for world peace and he got diddly squat.|||The committee said it honored Obama for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

The Nobel committee recognized Obama's efforts at dialogue to solve complex global problems, including working toward a world free of nuclear weapons.

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the committee said.

Jagland said the decision was "unanimous" and came with ease.|||He does not deserve it. He is nowhere near the level of any of those great men and women. He has not kept his promises, he is INCREASING the troop presence and military action in the Middle East. He is simply continuing Bush's policies. I find it ironic Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize on the same day we _bombed the moon_.

Giving him the Nobel Peace Prize shames the award, reducing it to a pedantic popularity contest.|||idk how he won.its kinda weird.

cos lyk firstly, he still supports the war on terror, and wants a world without atomic weapons.

But everyone knows that america has more than enuff wmds to destroy the world many times over. and as the president, he is both directly and indirectly responsible for all civilians killed by his troops.

What peace?

I dont think he should get the prize. the prize should be awarded to those who sincerely campaign for peace and haven't a hand in war and killing.|||well they had to vote on who to give the prize to 11 days after he was elected.. so at that point all he had really done was make history..so i think he won the Nobel Peace Prize because he is the first black president and at the time they thought he would be the 09 Martin Luther King Jr.. but if you ask me he has done NOTHING to deserve it!!!! What has he done that has generated peace?? all he has done is cause uproar after uproar..in a way he is keeping his promise..for change but its a change for the worse...|||Last I heard the Pres is dealing with an increasingly deadly war in Afghanistan. They should've waited at least another year. They don't even know if he's going to follow through on Gen. McChrystal's request for 40000 more troops for Afghanistan. If Obama does, the Nobel people are going to look awfully stupid.|||Oddly, his list of objectives are incomplete.

In his campaign, he discussed ending the war in Iraq.

We're still fighting there.

In his campaign, he promised to close Guantanamo.

It's still open.

In his campaign, he promised health care for all.

He has yet to come up with a bill that Congress will pass.

I really think this is a shove from the Swedes to get us to pull out of Afghanistan. This is a war that he wanted to focus on and has yet to do so - and I think he's caving to political pressure rather htan making a smart decision.

_-----------------------------------

EDIT:

"Created a new international climate" - what does that mean? What is of substance in that statement?

Other nominees have taken concrete actions such as building schools, supplying food aid, educating the poor, tending to the sick.

Obama's made a lot of speeches. That's about it.|||Nobel is rolling in his crypt. But he has been spinning since they started giving the "PEACE" prize to terrorist (Began and Arafat) not to mention clowns like Al Gore.|||"Then (later) he ('the prince who is to come' ... the coming Antichrist)

shall confirm (enforce)

a covenant ('peace treaty' or 'peace plan')

with many (in Israel)

for one week (a week of years = 7 years)

But in the middle of the week

(exactly 3陆 years after enforcing the 'peace')

He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.

(He will probably help Israel build a new Temple first)

And on the wing of abominations

shall be one who makes desolate ..." (Revelation chapters 6-20 detail the coming events of this time)

(The coming 'Apocalypse' ... the 'Great Tribulation' ... Armageddon)

(Daniel 9:27)

Daniel 9:27a

A peace treaty with锘?Israel will usher in the Tribulation.

Revelation 17:14a

Jesus will defend Israel, conquering Israel's enemies during latter Tribulation.

Revelation 18:21b

The armies of Israel's enemies will be no more.

Revelation 19:7

Jesus will arrive, ready to marry His bride.

Revelation 19:19 - 21

The leaders of Israel's enemies will be killed.

Revelation 21:9 - 10

Jesus' bride is revealed to be the holy city of Jerusalem.

...Dudes gonna trigger the tribulation...|||i think its bull. He didn't do anything. he's not even going to stop this war, he is planning on sending more people over there. They gave it to him, because he is 'planning' on stopping the war, that's not the same as doing. People actaully agree that he should have gotten it. They are only saying that because he is black...no offense to anyone, but thats the way i feel.|||The reasons given for him winning are....."because of his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy." Because he's the ONLY president that has ever done those things! It's almost as big of a joke as obama himself is!|||Al Gore won it as well for ripping off people and making millions on global warming. Politics in those prizes and politicians are crooks. It is a vicious circle.

Obama- "I don't know the details but I think the cop acted poorly."

Me- "I think you are full of sh*t!"

Yea he is really gotten things peaceful.|||I say that all this is just another way to have the public eye focused on the Obama Administration and the Democrats! These Liberals want another four years to govern the U.S. with their "political" views. All I am hoping that maybe Mr. Obama will share his millions with the American people [laughing].

Cheers!|||i was thinking the same thing when i heard it. I read it on msn and i was like "um... what exactly has he done to deserve something as big as the nobel peace prize?" It's making no sense to me...... at all. Now of course, I'm only 14, but still. i just.... don't... get it.|||I just saw this on CNN, I thought, what? Is this a joke? No, wait, it's 3am. Oh wow, they are serious.

I support Obama as our president and I hope that he does well, but giving him the Nobel Peace Prize is a bit early, no? It hasn't even been a year yet.|||this one caught me off guard, too, and i'm a liberal democrat... something doesn't seem right.

i know he really changed the tone of US foreign policy from bush, but i don't think he's deserving of the nobel prize just yet.|||Politicians always promise more than they can deliver %26amp; deliver more than they can afford.

Maybe this time Obama will throw an"open house" party for winning the Nobel prize.|||I am starting now, after this, to give a chance the conspiracy theories of a one world government.

By the way, how ironic is this? Just about when he said that he was going to add more troops to a WAR!!|||I been to the top of the mountain, looked out saw the pile of Crap Obama's dumped on America;heard he won the Nobel and said "WTF"!!!|||This is my vote for best answer:

http://www.splicd.com/GMJuEOaF84o/152/66鈥?/a>|||it's simple unbelievable|||The Nobel Peace Prize is a bigger joke then the Grammy's Adolf Hitler was nominated in 1938 for Christs sake.|||Obama can win Noble peace prize, just pull troops out of iraq and afghaistan and put that budget back to US economy|||" Im really happy for you Obama and Ima let you finish but...."

Appropriate circumstances for a Kanye speech.|||He was nominated less than 2 weeks after his inauguration.

Must have been a heck of a 2 weeks.|||i just read that. this is really getting crazy!|||I realized the Peace Prize had lost it's significance when Gore won it.|||That is completely insane. I thought you were making it up till I googled it. This just adds credibility to the likes of Alex Jones and David Icke.|||I think you're just as dumbfounded as the rest of us....|||I have no idea President Obama was in the running for the prize!

He doesn't compare to Mother Teresa or Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

No, he hasn't had time to prove himself, but people have somehow found things to criticize anyway.

The war is still going on in Afghanistan.

I think that he has promoted and achieved peace by being a symbol of peace only.

Maybe he won, because of what he will be able to represent in the future. I have no idea.

Congratulations anyway to President Obama. I nominate this announcement as 'Stunner of the Year!'|||Well the news article that announced it quotes the committee saying:

" [He has] created a new climate in international politics."

which if you you get your news from a real source such as BBC instead of the often biased and shallow American agencies you will realize he has. All the effort he's put into undoing the damage Bush did to America's international image (i.e. hosting talks between Israel %26amp; Palestine) counts for something, because the United State's tone in foreign policy really matters as a lot of other nations will follow the precedent it sets. So in effect, it really changes the political climate globally.

Besides, I think they wanted to encourage him in a way o make decisions that ultimately benefit international peace because he's facing some very key decision at the moment.

Also to the people who mentioned the war in Afghanistan, he's just trying to deal with the mess that someone else created, remember Bush?

Should President Obama get another Nobel Prize for bringing the country together during this race scandal?

I think so...

Obama should invite Reid to the White House and they should both have a beer.

Give them both Nobel Prizes for bringing us all together and for finally putting race behind us once and for all!|||How often do you see minorites on here complaining about race? Never? This board is filled day after day with republicans complaining about blacks and hispanics. Republicans need to give it a rest|||I smell the stench of "Conservative" sour grapes :-(

Since ol dunderhead George couldn't win the Nobel Peace Prize, Cons are now trying to convince themselves it's an "invalid prize" :-( Hah hah, that's good, thank you Cons for the laugh :-)

Obama has done more (good) in 1 year than ol Georgie did in EIGHT YEARS !

(Cons can't see the truth past their huge lying, sniveling noses :-)|||Yeah! He should also get 17 environmental awards for forgetting to flush a toilet.|||BUT BUT BUT REID called obama a NEGROOOOO|||Sounds good to me.|||No, but he should get an Oscar for his acting ability - I find it amazing how convincingly he can lie to the American people.|||stop sucking limbaugh's pen1s please|||It's not a scandal, it's just more right wing whining.|||How about a beer summit?|||I second Mathew.|||Haha, great point!|||could anyone tell me what锘?year this is please?|||hehe

That made me laugh :D

Nice post.|||yeah but he should not do wars|||yea|||yep! but he needs to stop the wars..bring those ppl home with their families.

If you had won the Nobel prize how would you?

If you had won the Nobel prize in Obama place, how would you have made and continue to make it mean something?|||If I were Obama I would've told them to give it to somebody who actually did something to promote peace.|||Do just like he did and give the money to charity.|||I would have done what he did, I would have given the prize money away to charity.|||I would have acted better in front of the Swedish king to start with. I would condemn Iran, Syria, and North Korea, as well as islamic radicalism.|||Well, I certainly wouldn't set out to destroy the greatest nation in the world by crippling it economically and dramatically expanding its control over the lives of its citizens.

I'd probably just sit at home on YA answering questions.|||Continue on in the direction of the ideals that they gave it to me for. Of course, I would keep the $1.4 Million to help me do that.|||I would have gone around the world saying things like, 'Imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try....' and you may say i am a dreamer-but i am not the only one.

maybe someday you'll join us. the world, can it live as one?
