I dont think he should get the prize. the prize should be awarded to those who sincerely campaign for peace and haven't a hand in war and killing.|||well they had to vote on who to give the prize to 11 days after he was elected.. so at that point all he had really done was make history..so i think he won the Nobel Peace Prize because he is the first black president and at the time they thought he would be the 09 Martin Luther King Jr.. but if you ask me he has done NOTHING to deserve it!!!! What has he done that has generated peace?? all he has done is cause uproar after uproar..in a way he is keeping his promise..for change but its a change for the worse...|||Last I heard the Pres is dealing with an increasingly deadly war in Afghanistan. They should've waited at least another year. They don't even know if he's going to follow through on Gen. McChrystal's request for 40000 more troops for Afghanistan. If Obama does, the Nobel people are going to look awfully stupid.|||Oddly, his list of objectives are incomplete.
In his campaign, he discussed ending the war in Iraq.
We're still fighting there.
In his campaign, he promised to close Guantanamo.
It's still open.
In his campaign, he promised health care for all.
He has yet to come up with a bill that Congress will pass.
I really think this is a shove from the Swedes to get us to pull out of Afghanistan. This is a war that he wanted to focus on and has yet to do so - and I think he's caving to political pressure rather htan making a smart decision.

They gave it to him, because he is 'planning' on stopping the war, that's not the same as doing. People actaully agree that he should have gotten it. Maybe he won, because of what he will be able to represent in the future. I have no idea.
Congratulations anyway to President Obama. I nominate this announcement as 'Stunner of the Year!'|||Well the news article that announced it quotes the committee saying:
" [He has] created a new climate in international politics."
which if you you get your news from a real source such as BBC instead of the often biased and shallow American agencies you will realize he has. All the effort he's put into undoing the damage Bush did to America's international image (i.e. hosting talks between Israel %26amp; Palestine) counts for something, because the United State's tone in foreign policy really matters as a lot of other nations will follow the precedent it sets. So in effect, it really changes the political climate globally.
Besides, I think they wanted to encourage him in a way o make decisions that ultimately benefit international peace because he's facing some very key decision at the moment.
Also to the people who mentioned the war in Afghanistan, he's just trying to deal with the mess that someone else created, remember Bush?
