Give me a couple of good reasons as to why President Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Prize?

I voted for the President last fall, but I can't think of one good darn reason as to why he needs to be given the Nobel Prize only 9 months into his presidency, heck I can't think of one darn good thing he's done so far, but that's another story.

Can you liberals give me a good reason why he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize? (My sister a staunch liberal has no answers) Maybe some of you can enlighten me, because it's really strange.|||He won because he's not Bush. It was an anti Bush vote.|||He deserves it. This shows why...

Also... "A 25-nation poll of 27,000 people released in July by the Pew Global Attitudes Project found double-digit boosts to the percentage of people viewing the U.S. favorably in countries around the world. That indicator had plunged across the world under President George W. Bush."

Obama has taken a much more multilateral approach than Bush did in the last eight years, and the world applauds it. Peace talks and negotiations with North Korea, Iran, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Russia. Outreach to the Muslim world. Drawing down in Iraq. Bringing Russia to the table over Iran (and against China) was HUGE. Nuclear disarmament talks. Strengthening the US role in combatting climate change.

Thousands of nominations were made right after Obama took office and his name was thrown into the hat, yes. But the talks and the decision about who was to win the prize *just took place*.

Obama is giving the money to charity, btw.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/09鈥?/a>|||well they had to vote on who to give the prize to 11 days after he was elected.. so at that point all he had really done was make history..so i think he won the Nobel Peace Prize because he is the first black president and at the time they thought he would be the 09 Martin Luther King Jr.. but if you ask me he has done NOTHING to deserve it!!!! What has he done that has generated peace?? all he has done is cause uproar after uproar..in a way he is keeping his promise..for change but its a change for the worse...|||WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barrack Obama's special envoy for the Middle East George Mitchell will return to the Middle East to persuade leaders of Israel and the Palestinian Authority to resume peace talks, said a State Department official on Tuesday.

_June 4, 2009: Obama extends a hand to the Islamic world in a speech in Cairo. "So long as our relationship is defined by our differences, we will empower those who sow hatred rather than peace, those who promote conflict rather than the cooperation that can help all of our people achieve justice and prosperity. And this cycle of suspicion and discord must end."

Sept. 24: Obama shepherds a historic resolution through a rare U.N. Security Council summit meeting 鈥?an all-embracing document on the world's nuclear future, a statement with a clear made-by-Obama label. By an unanimous vote, the world body endorsed a sweeping strategy to halt the spread of atomic arms and ultimately to eliminate them. Obama proclaimed that he and other world leaders would leave New York "with a renewed determination to achieve this shared goal."|||Sorry I couldn't find any.

Tucking Fypos-there is still no PEACE between Palestine and Israel.

2) America was never at war with the muslim world. And Obama's speech didn't appeal to muslims around the world. Believe me, I'm an Indian and all the muslims I talked to over here didn't feel like Obama was talking to them.

3) Obama wants to the world to be nuclear weapons free but he doen't want America to commit to reduce your nuclear warheads.

As for some someone who said America's standing the world has improved after Obama took office-sorry ma'am, Obama more than Bush makes you look like bullies and worst fools.

He wants developing countries like India, China and Brazil to reduce CO2 emissions but says Ameirca-the largest emitter of CO2 will not commit to reduce CO2. The same thing applies to reducing nuclear warheads.

Maybe the people in nobel committee and Americans have faith in Obama to bring peace to the world but not the rest of us. Atleast not the people of my country.|||Obama was nominated for it after 10 days in office. TEN DAYS!!!!!

It's laughable and pathetic at the same time. I find it unbelievable the degree that they were willing to overlook those people that have spent years working for peace in all regions of the world and instead of giving it to a deserving person.....they gave it to someone who's only contribution to peace...... was to wave the peace sign.

No worries.....our country will look just like theirs.....in the next three years.|||Okay. 1.) He didn't start 2 wars. He's trying to bring them to a close. 2.) He's trying to work diplomacy to mend fences W ruined. 3.) His education and health care efforts approach these issues in a positive manner. 4,) He is restoring the US image to one of world leader, as opposed to world bully. 5.) oops! You said 2. Sorry!|||This is how Obama won the Nobel peace prize!!! Read and learn and then you too can win the Nobel peace prize...LOL

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/10/0鈥?/a>|||assuming your question is actually on the level, the real reason seems to be the change in view of American politics toward the middle east and muslim nations...

there is still some hostility, but it is greatly reduced vs. under the Bush years...|||Not sure how he earned it, but thanks for voting for him.|||Personally I think he deserve an award just for pissing off all the right people.|||he is the first black president, that's all|||affirmative action|||no disrespect to him, but I don't think he deserves it.|||It actually seems very logical, given who nominates the candidates and the original criteria: That the recipient .." during the preceding year ...shall have done the most or the best work for the fraternity of nations, etc." The preceding year would have been the year before Obama's election. with the review period only lasting until Sept of this year.

Obama during his campaign took a firm stand against torture,

Vowed to close Guantanamo and also engaged in cooperation and more communication with other countries. He also visited and spoke in other Countries.

The candidates for the Peace Prize are nominated by members of International Courts, former award recipients, organizations that as advocates for peace and diplomacy.

They are not concerned with health care or economic crisis or polls. and are not "chicken doves". They are actually those who promote peace and human rights.

1. International Law Courts would vote for his stand against keeping Guantanamo open and using torture. His top Honors and degree from Harvard Law, as well as editing the law review gives them ample information about his legal perspective. Teaching at the University of Chicago and doing community work rather than taking a far more lucrative job shows commitment.

2. His two books are both about fostering understanding among opposing views. This probably appeals and furthers the goals of many of the former recipients that have a say in the nomination as well as his concern and personal visits to other countries.

3. He is one of the most qualified in terms of fostering a fraternity of Nations since his advocacy has been televised throughout the world..

4. He even did his stint as a community organizer which is the same path as many of the recipients. They dedicate their time and talents not to amassing personal wealth but serving people.

I do not agree with all the decisions that Obama has made or everything he has said or done. But to me it seems that he fits the criteria for an International Award given who can nominate and vote.

Makes sense to me.
