What do you think of Liu Xiaobo receving the Nobel Peace prize?

Liu Xiaobo just received the Nobel Peace prize, what do you think about this?|||if Obama or Dalai Lama can win it, then i think NOTHING about it.|||I think the Nobel Peace Prize is politically motivated and doesn't mean much. The Nobel Prize was given to Barack Obama in 2009 and to Al Gore in 2007 for purely political reasons and the same as is true with this year's award. Giving the prize to Liu Xiaobo is an obvious attempt to politically embarrass the Chinese government since Lui Xiaobo is in prison for trying to overthrow the Chinese government. Funny how they don't give Nobel Prizes to people who try overthrowing the US or other western governments.|||I think the original intention to set up the Peace Prize was for peace rather than disputes, the reason why people from all of the world respect the Noble Prizes is the achievement of those prize awardees having been comprehensively acknowledged.

Awarding a prize like this, only creating disputes rather than peace. It mere decreases the prestige of Noble Prize in peoples heart. I am thinking, do those awarders in Sweden eagerly want to prove they are right, others are wrong by awarding the Prize?|||I feel giving out this Peace prize is very difficult to earn credit, it is just like working as a spy or in crime prevention. We all know about the terror attack on USA on 9/11, but what if the CIA and intelligence were ABLE to STOP it from happening. With hind sight now, we would say any prevention operation deserves the highest honor, but if it NEVER happened, we would NOT think anything about it because we could never imagine what really happened! Being awarded the Peace prize means conflicts had been avoided, but just BECAUSE they're prevented from happening especially in future, many people think nothing about it.

This time, it is also a message from the free world, or at least those who decide on who deserves the prize, that they are watching China not only as an economic superpower, but would want to keep an eye on its democratic progression.

This world is full of disagreement on ideologies, religions, moral beliefs, points of views, achieving peace on any level is an ongoing process that would rarely yield instant or even near future results. I just think the Nobel Foundation do have an astute long term insight into what people are contributing to achieving a peaceful goal.|||This question was asked by a dead head looking for backing. How else can you back the statement "Norway is causing war with China"? The Nobel committee is no country, much less starting a war. I would say banana up my has the right idea. Any prize given will have other people who are jealous or less informed that complain. The only thing I have read this man has done was write a paper (or book) on democracy and the multi party system. Why are these people who complain of this so scared of one mans thoughts about freedom? They act like he was the general of a invading army that was on the verge of burning Beijing. He has spent much of his life in jail for only talking. This makes me think the people who are so scared of him are very bad or very uninformed. What a waste of these peoples minds. This guy or girl who ask this question then sprouts all the hate for China has a big problem and nothing on yahoo will help . The hate is only in their head.|||It just a big bull-****. The white men try hard by all means to control other races in the whole world to follow their wishes. Any way, if don't worth any values to the eyes and ears of the Asian. Let the white man world enjoys what they want to say. Look at the past how these white men sailed round the world conquering and occupying lands of peaceful countries but putting on a good reason to it -Saviour to the people of the conquered land!|||I think the Peace prize is corrupt some kind of news gimmik thing i dont know but seems some really stupid people have won....i mean obama? what did he do for peace?

i dont think liu xiaobo should, i think the company giving the prizes mainly like to try to cause contoversy and talking points.|||It's easy to see why he won: Living in a Chinese prison keeps one quite peaceful.

Over all, I think it pales in comparison to China's winning the IgNobel Science Award for studying fruit bat felatio. Now THAT was an achievement of which I am sure they are very proud!|||What? Liu Xiaobo won the Nobel Prize?

Why is there no mention of it on the newspaper here in China?|||I will kick his/her *** very hard, if anyone dare to say again: mainland Chinese cannot win any Noble prize.|||I like it, because like the man said, "if the commies ar for it, then I'm against it"|||Any prize draws criticism or people disliking it. Olympic games are meant to be about sport and politics and now many times has had politics bought up. Even then in the 2008 games when China was saying it shouldn't be about politics it was getting political about what Taiwan can't and can do, double standards I say!

The Chinese governmental are not going to like it as it bring 'human rights' on China into the spotlight again and the government are not happy about it.

Any group of people will have bad members in them like i.e. some Falun Gong and Sichuan comments to CCP members taking bribes, cheating, stealing and general corruption.

Maybe a better question is what parts of charter 08 don't you agree with

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_08#鈥?/a>

and why the Chinese government stops a person freedom of speech then the Chinese constitution under articles 35 and 41 give the right for Chinese people to have freedom of speech and the right to criticize or make suggestions to any state organ or functionary. Surely is seems Chinese constitutional law is not taken seriously.|||Here's 10+ Chinese dissidents overseas thoughts: http://truthinchina.wordpress.com/2010/1鈥?/a>
