A shifting environment means areas that have been prime agricultural land may turn into desert, thus reducing the amount of available food. Countries with hungry populations tend to look for food wherever and however they can get it. Rwanda is an example.
Yes, environmental change can lead to unrest and war.
Attempting to prevent (or at least alleviate) those effects can prevent massive unrest in the future.|||this is just stupid..... it has nothing to do with peace..... al gore never should have won anything in the first place much less for peace

|||Aside from shouting your opinion at a higher decibel level, why not try PROVING your point? WHY should Al Gore not have won the Nobel Peace Prize? If you can't provide examples or some logic behind your thinking, you're not adding anything to the conversation.

|||Wars have long been fought over the distribution of resources, and GW will affect the availability and production of the most basic resources: food and fresh water.
And, according to the Nobel Prize Committee website...
"In addition to humanitarian efforts and peace movements, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded for work in a wide range of fields including advocacy of human rights, mediation of international conflicts, and arms control."
I believe GW work might fall under "humanitarian efforts," and possibly under "advocacy of human rights" as well, since those who will be most affected (hit by floods, loss of farmland, etc) are the poorest people in the world.|||great question. it's not related to peace, and the man that received it wasnt even a scientist. it would only relate to countries and peace if gore had resolved conflicts related to global warming, which he has not.|||Because the next world war won't be about oil, it will be about water.
And if you don't believe that, check out the American southeast right now!|||Look at how severe weather causes droughts in Africa. Lack of water is one of the principle reasons behind a lot of blood being spilled there.
When the oceans rise, imagine the deaths that will occur. Imagine how people in low lying areas will flee to higher ground. Look at the animosity in the US towards Mexicans coming into this country. Now imagine the anger and hatred that will acompany those fleeing the rising oceans.
Climate change will lead to economic and environmental devastation which will lead to political unrest and likely war.|||Oooooo!!! Oceans are rising and the sky's falling!!!

When they do they'll head to wherever there is dry land. Will the dry countries allow refugees? Will they have room for them? It now should be called the "best advocacy of a liberal idea that is foisted upon the public by fear mongering". Then and only then would they be honest.
