Why and how did the palestinian and israeli prime ministers won the nobel peace prize in 1994?

yassir arrafat - former palestinian president shared nobel peace prize in 1994 with two former israeli prime ministers shimon peres and yitzhak rabin. what made them the most deserving peace prize winners and what did they contributed to the world's peace?|||The award was given for two reasons.

One, in 1994 worldwide Islamo-fascism had yet to emerge as a credible threat, so the very limited progress made at the time seemed a step towards lasting peace.

Basically, things had been so bad for so long, that ANY progress was heralded as a major breakthrough, even though no one in the know at the time really believed that a lasting peace was imminent.

The Nobel committee has to give the award ever year, so it goes to whoever strikes their fancy in the Zeitgeist of that moment. The committee no doubt believed that by piling on their recognition with the Time Magazine crowd, they could create a goodwill wave that would lift Yasser Arafat and his cronies into a desire to make peace with the Jews of Israel.

So basically, goodwill and ignorance/blind hope were the motivations.

The Nobel Prizes have never been taken seriously by anyone outside of academia. They are good for conversation topics, but are no more so than the Oscars or the Olympics; and ultimately no more important.

Afterall, they were conceived by Alfred Nobel to sooth his guilty conscience after seeing how many people suffered and died as a result of his invention, TNT (dynamite), and the monetary prizes are paid for from those proceeds.|||In 1994, the Peace Prize was awarded to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres for the Oslo Agreement, which brought about a mutual recognition and a framework for peace between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel.|||Another joke from Clinton era.

And how it helped to resolve situation.

How many Israelis were killed on the markets, buses, streets, under "Katuscha rockets" since "Oslo Agreement" by poor, deprave Palestinian?|||They shook hands a few times and talked about peace...thats about it.|||The real question is: why was george bush nominated for the nobel peace prize
