Should a person win the Nobel Peace Prize based upon their potential, vs what they have done?

In looking at some of the other candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize, I still do not understand why the recipient was given this award based upon his promises. Obama was nominated only 2 months after he became President!!





Does this make sense to any of you?|||It really doesn't make any sense to me either. I mean, I support our President and all, but I don't think he was worthy of that prize at this moment in time. There seems something wrong here.





The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded, for example, to Mother Teresa. And to me, awarding the same prize to Barack Obama is like comparing what they have done individually, which doesn't seem fair to me. If I were him, I wouldn't feel like I had deserved it.|||After eight years of Dubya, it must have come as a huge relief to the international community to have a president of the U.S. that can both spell AND define "diplomacy". So I sort of understand why he got the nod.





But really, he hasn't done anything yet.|||If the award is based on promises then it should henchforth be known as the holy grail of salesmen everywhere.

L-ies|||Anyone has potential. That is no reason for a Nobel. It should be based on what you have achieved, not what you might achieve or promise to achieve.





No, this makes no sense to me.


I guess they dropped the bar on what makes one qualified for the Nobel. Sad, very sad.|||Actually the nominations had to be in by February 1st so it's even worse.....it was only two weeks after his inaugaration. I think this award is ridiculous and it has cheapened it for every other winner. It's lost it's credibility.|||No, most certainly not! Potential may never be realized, and campaign promises are just lies that no wise person should believe. This is a farce to give a man a prize because of the lies he told.|||how do you know who else was nominated, that is not revealed till 2059 and you do know that 205 different nominations came in 33 were for groups and there is no such thing as campainging to be nominated at all.|||I am going to find a cure for cancer. I'm tired of seeing people suffer from this dread disease. I will work hard and hope my cure comes soon.





Now give me my prize.





It doesn't have to make sense because it has become political.
